beautiful laundry room before and after

May 7, 2011

I am really excited to have Cindy as our guest post today. She’s inspired me to get something
done to our laundry room!
Honestly, her before would be an improvement in our home 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing
how a space can be transformed with very little money.
Hello everyone,
My name is Cindy and my blog is Cameras and Chaos.  I am a Family Photographer in Michigan and
if you live in Michigan, you know that winters are not very conducive to outdoor photography…
so this past winter I did a lot of home improvement projects and furniture upcycling….
just doing my part to take ugly and make it pretty!!!
I have been reading Bargain Hoot for the past year and I love Rene’s wonderful money
saving posts and inspiration.
How about that no-bake coconut cake…
mmmmmm, a girl after my own heart!!  She has graciously allowed me to share a project with
you that I posted about recently on my blog.
We all have to do laundry, right?  But who wants to do laundry in a cave?  Not, me, sister!!!
If you have to do laundry,
you might as well as do it as a Princess, right?
My laundry room was utilitarian but very dark and well, frankly, boring.
I knew I wanted something lighter and brighter.
I wanted to be able to do this as inexpensively as possible.
I used a gallon of oops paint ($5.00, yup, five dollars),  and tester paint in the
darkest turquoise i could have tinted
and mixed it myself
so i foraged around in the basement and i found a can of white paint
and added white paint to lighten and brighten it up.
i made the roman shade, hung the chandelier,
added the board and batten technique
and shelf above the washer and dryer.
and I did it all for about $50.00…Check out my blog to get the whole story of how my laundry room went from Bleak to Chic….
http://camerasandchaos.blogspot.com/2011/02/laundry-room-redo.html
It wasn’t nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be before I started, and I did 95% of the work all on my own….don’t be afraid to tackle a project like this…
all it takes is a little planning, an inspiration fabric, photo or paint chip and the determination that you want to live like a Princess….at least while you are doing
the laundry!!!!

I agree, the before photo would definitely be an improvement for me, but I LOVE the turquoise and the way it came out- so beautiful…

Gorgeous! You certainly have an eye for beauty (hence the photography). I am style-challenged, but I’m a good copier :-D. Thank you for the inspiration. I’m going to do this by Christmas.
