Cleaning a Dirty Bath Tub :: Easy DIY Cleaner Recipe

July 8, 2013

I don’t know about you, but I like to clean. As a matter of fact I love to clean. I feel a sense of satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment after I clean. I clean every morning when I get up and at night before I go to bed…and usually in between. I clean houses for a living! So when I moved into the house I am currently living in and there were some stains in the tub that I couldn’t get rid of it irked me…bad. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of the stains; Comet, Bleach, Magic Eraser, scrubbing, regular bathroom cleaners and nothing worked! It looked as if the people who had lived here before had one of those “no slip” mats and it had caused a discoloration on the bottom of the tub.

In my distracted scanning of Pinterest I found a natural home remedy to clean showers. I saved it and didn’t really know if I would use it. Then one of those days happened where I was home and motivated. I pulled up the recipe and got to work. It was so simple! Here’s what I needed:

On the original Pinterest link, it said to use Dawn dish soap, but I used what I had and it worked great!

So I mixed the recipe and put it in a spray bottle. Then I went to town on the tub! After spraying it, you need to let it sit for around 2 hours. Depending on how dirty your tub is will determine how much you have to scrub. I had to scrub quite a bit but it was SOOOO worth it! I can say that this is one of the best cleaning ideas that I have found on the internet and it used simple cleaning supplies that I already had.

I love getting a good result from something so simple. If you have a chance to use this recipe, please let us know how it works for you in the comments.

Happy cleaning!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a textured shower basin that is so difficult to keep clean. I’ve tried every product out there to remove the soap film… But this method did the job! Ill need to do double applications, but with some serious scrubbing, my shower looks better than it has in years. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with this new tip. Thanks for sharing a miracle cute with us.

Wow, this worked great! I went ahead and used Dawn since my bathtub was really stained.
