Tornado hits, minutes away… a time of prayer

June 6, 2010

Last night we spent much of the evening in our basement… glued to the TV, waiting for the all clear from the weather announcer. You see there was a major storm and tornado warning for our area and a tornado did end up touching down and doing extensive damage to a high school and several homes about 10 minutes away. The sad thing is 5 people lost their lives. We are praying for those families and loved ones who are grieving. Please pray for them….  one of the victims was the father of the class valedictorian ….  who was getting ready to graduate today from the highschool shown in the pictures below..

I can’t help but take a moment in the midst of this devastation to thank the Lord…… I’m thankful that the home that God blessed us with is still standing and my family is safe.  But, most of all I’m thankful that because my family and I have commited our lives to the Lord we know where we are going someday. I have a peace.

My prayer for you today,  is that you know where you are going. I hope that you have that assurance, that if anything were to happen to your life here on earth, you will be spending eternity with the Lord. If you don’t you can have that assurance….  You can read this and pray with sincerity, Lord I want that assurance of eternity with you, give me that peace. I surrender my life to you …mold me and make me into that new creature in Christ….fill that emptiness inside me with you… I’m a sinner, I repent of my sins, Lord forgive me of my sins . I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, he was buried and rose again on the 3rd day and is coming again. I know that if you said that and meant it, that God will continue that new work in your life and from this day forward you’ll never be the same. Please email me if you want to talk more or if you have any questions or comments.

If this is the last blog post you ever read of mine or if this is the last post I ever write… I know that I have shared what is on my heart and care enough to tell you how I feel and what I believe…

    Hi Rene,
We are both feeling the same tonight, it’s so hard to believe. I’m just kinda numb.

    Hey Rene:
I heard this on the news. I am praying for you and your town. When things like this happen, you realize what’s really important. Like what you shared about the gospel. That is the most important thing. Thank you for thinking of others in the midst of your trouble. What you shared is the best gift I ever got. God bless you.

    Hi Rene,

I saw the devastation on the news. I was surprised at the amount of people that died. Its so sad and so terribly unfair. What anguish you must feel. You will all be in my prayers tonight.
    God bless!

Wow I saw this on the news this morning – I am so glad you and your family are all ok, how horrible! We have a lot of those kind of storms in our area in GA too and I always cross my fingers that people come out ok on the other side of it!

We never know what today nor tomorrow may bring , however as Christians we know peace and love thru Christ, our Lord. We do not understand why such tragic events occur to good people however we again know God is with us. I am praying for your community and the graduate who lost their father. May you find strength and thankfulness continually thru your faith. What a beautiful way you shared your faith with all–thank you.
I find it so interesting that so many of the blogs/craft sites I love are posted by women of faith.

I heard about it on the news this morning and it stuck with me because all I could think of was that poor student who lost his/her father. How sad.

My husband and I were talking about those storms and how frightening that must be. The loss of life and property, lives torn apart literally, makes us so sad. We will pray for you and those in your area. I’m so glad you have a safe place to go to. Know you are in our thoughts.

I am so thankful we do not live with tornadoes – how you all do it, living with the constant threat is amazing. I pray for those families affected – for healing, a time of peace and strength to continue moving forward.

    Susan,
Thank you for your prayers for the families who lost loved ones. ….we don’t have tornadoes that often, but when we do, I’m thankful for a basement.

Dancy, I know it is so sad. I guess they were all in the basement and he went to get a flashlight when the tornado hit the home. The graduation is postponed until tomorrow…
